DAWS is an animal shelter saving hundreds and hundreds of cats and dogs over the past ten years. Our mission is to find loving forever homes for our pets. It is located in Bethel CT. Pet overpopulation is a huge problem in America, but it is fixable! (pun intended)- PLEASE make sure when you adopt (please don’t shop) that you spay or neuter your dog or cat. It is a statistical fact that two dogs that are spayed or neutered will produce 57,000 dogs over the span of 8 years. Sounds crazy, right? But if you do the math, you’ll realize that the first 2 dogs can produce over 40 dogs alone. Then those dogs, in turn, create hundreds of dogs, and it continues. That is why spaying and neutering is so important. Spread the word!

My experience-
Last Christmas my husband and I went to Turks and Caicos Island for a wonderful vacation. While we were in Provodenciales we came across Potcake Place, a wonderful organization that saves homeless dogs and puppies from the dangers of living on the street. There are no spay/neuter programs for unwante
d dogs, so they multiply exponentially on the streets. Yes, it is sad, but you can help.
As a tourist there are many ways to help them. For example, you can adopt, or even curry a dog back. Yes- that means you would pick the dog up, keep it in the carrier and bring it on the plane with you! At your destination airport, there would be someone waiting for the dog. No cost to you. No paperwork, the organization handles everything. You’re just bringing someone a dog that they have been waiting for. What a wonderful thing. My husband and I came across her shelter the day we were leaving, so it was too late to make arrangements, but when we go back, we will definitely help her. Bonus: At the airport that day, we saw two Potcake puppies! They were adorable and had a crowd of people around them.
