Sleepy Puppies Dog Sculpture

Hey everyone!  I just finished a huge painting project- Sleepy Puppies, dedicated to shelter dogs.

For anyone who knows me, they know how important dogs are, specifically shelter dogs.  I have always wanted to make a piece of art dedicated to my dogs (they even make a cameo in the video).  I purchased this fiberglass sculpture, and it has stared a me (quite literally) in my studio for the past three years.   You can see a picture of it, pre-painting, here.

I have documented part of the process and you can see the finished sculpture in the short video. Can you tell what the puppies are sleeping in? Let me know your thoughts below!

Here are some photos of the finished Sleepy Puppies sculpture.  It is 20″x25″x12″, oil on fiberglass.

  1. Of course you can tell! Sleeping in the corn husks under the stars. Absolutely beautiful work, Denise. Amazing. Loved the video.

    • I have lots of sketches for this- it was so bizarre I couldn’t let it go. You can see more ideas under ‘projects’ at cowpainters.com. They make these molds.
